Long Beach Public Library Foundation Welcomes New Board Member, Olga G. Chavez
Long Beach, CA – August 19, 2024 – The Long Beach Public Library Foundation is excited to announce the appointment of Olga G. Chavez to its Board of Directors. Olga, a seasoned professional with over 35 years of experience in public affairs and corporate social responsibility, currently serves as the Sr. ESG & Stakeholder Engagement Representative at Marathon Petroleum’s Los Angeles Refinery.
Olga brings a wealth of experience in nonprofit development and community engagement, making her a valuable addition to the Long Beach Public Library Foundation’s leadership. In her current role, she oversees a multi-million dollar philanthropy budget, supporting local non-profits and communities, and works closely with the Marathon Leadership Team to develop impactful community investment and outreach strategies.
“It’s an incredible honor to join the board of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation,” said Chavez. “This service opportunity is truly meaningful given Marathon’s and the Foundation’s shared focus on advancing literacy and education in our community. I look forward to working together to make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.”
Born and raised in Cuba, Olga immigrated to the United States 40 years ago and has since dedicated herself to fostering community growth and development. Her extensive involvement in the nonprofit sector includes establishing several nonprofit foundations and serving on the boards of organizations such as the Wilmington and Gardena-Carson YMCAs, the Rotary Club of Wilmington, and the San Pedro and Wilmington Chambers. Additionally, she is a member of the President’s Advisory Board – Special Advisors to the Battleship IOWA Museum.
“As a representative of Marathon Petroleum on the Board of the Library Foundation, I hope to strengthen our commitment to community enrichment by supporting educational initiatives and promoting literacy,” Chavez added. “By serving on the board, I aim to foster collaborative efforts that align with our company’s values, ensuring that we contribute meaningfully to the Foundation’s mission of providing accessible resources and opportunities for learning and growth in our community.”
In her spare time, Olga enjoys hiking, dancing, listening to music, and indulging in a good Cuban cigar. She is a single mother of two young adults, Alejandro (Alex) and Victoria, both of whom are pursuing careers in healthcare.
“We are thrilled to welcome Olga to the Board of Directors,” said Veronica Garcia Dávalos, Executive Director and CEO of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation. “Her dedication to community service and her extensive experience in public relations and corporate social responsibility will be a great asset as we continue to support the Long Beach Public Library and its mission.”
