Dear Library Supporters,

This has been a monumental year for the Long Beach Public Library! I thank all of you for supporting our efforts to bring literacy programs and educational resources to more than 1 million patrons who visited our public libraries this year.

This summer, the Long Beach Public Library received the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, the nation’s highest honor given to libraries and museums for exceptional service to the community. I was joined by library volunteer Bryant Ben to accept the national medal at the National Archives Museum in Washington, D.C. on behalf of the talented Library staff who made this award possible. Our staff works incredibly hard every day to create the quality events, classes and services that earned this award. I am proud to see this work recognized on a national level.

While the majority of the Library’s funding comes from the City’s General Fund, there are valuable services that wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation donors. Without your grants and donations, we would not be able to assist thousands of children and families with homework assignments, résumés and job applications and also teach new, marketable skills like graphic design, coding, stop motion animation and computer literacy through our Family Learning Centers and makerspace Studio learning labs. These programs transform lives and communities.

For the upcoming year, we’ve set ambitious goals to further connect people, inspire ideas and transform lives. We are committed to reaching more children and families and ensuring that they know they can rely on our public libraries and library educators as active partners in learning for a lifetime. We will continue to provide self-directed learning, research assistance and instructive and enlightening opportunities that enhance the skills of our Long Beach residents. We exist to partner with our community to meet their personal and educational goals.

Our public libraries are an important part of this city’s educational system—we serve the diverse needs of our community and provide education for all. We greatly appreciate your support of our mission and hope we can count on you as we continue to expand our impact in the city of Long Beach.

Thank you for contributing to the success of our award-winning libraries, and making such an important investment in the human capital of our community.

Sincerely,

Glenda Williams
Director of Library Services
