An Evening with Billie Jean King Postponed

BILLIE JEAN KING ENCOURAGES YOU TO STAY HOME AND READ, AND OF COURSE, SUPPORT THE LIBRARY

Long Beach Public Library Foundation’s March 27 Evening with Billie Jean King Postponed

LONG BEACH, California, March 6, 2020 – The Long Beach Public Library Foundation and the Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative have jointly decided to indefinitely postpone their Evening with Billie Jean King event, originally scheduled for March 27, 2020, at the Billie Jean King Main Library. The decision was made amid public concerns around large gatherings after the discovery of coronavirus in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

“While the Long Beach Health Department has not reported any cases of COVID-19, nor have they recommended that events be canceled, we understand that many are concerned about the potential spread of the disease. The Long Beach Public Library Foundation has an absolute commitment to the health and safety of library patrons, supporters, and staff. Therefore, in consultation with our Board, staff, and partners, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the event until further notice.

“While we are disappointed, we know that library patrons and supporters will find solace in staying at home and reading a good book. Fortunately, the Library offers an array of online resources that can be accessed from home, free, with a library card. And anyone who would still like to support the new library can visit lbplfoundation.org/newmain to make a tax-deductible donation of any amount,” said Kate Azar, Executive Director of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation.

“We are grateful to all those who have supported this event and our New Main Campaign. We have reached out to all who have purchased tickets and sponsorships to offer refunds and discuss alternate opportunities to support the Library Foundation,” said Azar.

Any questions or concerns regarding the cancellation of this event can be directed to the Long Beach Public Library Foundation at 562.628.2441.

Funds raised for the New Main Campaign support programs, technology, and resources at the Billie Jean King Main Library that will be enjoyed by families, students, older visitors, those with disabilities, and anyone who would like to learn and connect at the Library for years to come.

The Library Foundation and the Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative hope to reschedule the event to a future date to raise funds for the continued success of the Billie Jean King Main Library.
